New to GW, help please
I'm completely completely new at this game, made the transition from WoW to this because I can't afford monthly fees anymore :P So I went ahead and bought Guild Wars: Platinum Edition (Came with Prophecies and Eye of the North expansion) so I wanted to ask, what do I even do to begin?
I chose a Warrior based character, already have him named, Archknight Of War, and so forth. Idk, any newbie advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks EDIT: Already up to the point of choosing a second profession, so a bit of detail would be good here Last edited by TheCielos; May 28, 2009 at 08:52 PM // 20:52.. |

Go play! you should start in ascalon. Look for dudes with green exclamation marks over their heads. Those are the quests; you get the marker on your radar. Go explore, kill stuff, talk to everyone.
You'll be in what's called "pre-Searing," and the general expectation (on the part of game designers) is that you play in pre until level 7-9 ish. Press L for quest logs, if you've talked to NPCs who gave you quests. Follow those quests and explore, and find the outposts. I believe there are 4 small outposts in pre-searing for you to find, in addition to the main city. Good luck. PM me ingame if you like: Beatrice Fallenstar. The friends list is accessed by pressing N, then typing the name of people you know. feel free to add me |

Welcome to Guild Wars! A few tips:
1. Press F10 in game. That pops a list of links to the Wiki (visiting them will minimise the window and open your web browser). Or just visit wiki.guildwars.com 2. Each campaign has storyline which can be completed. Don't worry about leveling as you will hit max level LONG before you complete the story, leveling is just a tutorial. Same goes for gear. You can respec anytime you're in town. Past certain point in game, you can also change the secondary class. 3. You can move from campaign to other campaigns once you hit certain point in a story. Also, press M - you can move to outposts by clicking on them. Once you gain ability to move between campaigns, click on the boat to do so instantly. 4. In Prophecies and Factions, the storyline missions show up in party window as 'Enter Mission' button. In Nightfall and Eye of the North, you start them by talking to an NPC. Missions are longer than quests, and have involved series of goals you need to complete. In all campaigns except Eye of the North, party wipe in a mission kicks you to the outpost and you need to retry. 5. PvP characters are max level, max armour and max weapon as soon as you create them (you still have to unlock armour and weapon mods, and skills). You can only visit PvP arenas with them. 6. Game balance is based on 8 skills limit. It's not just a GUI preference. 7. Find a guild. 8. Be nice to others and have fun! |

First off, TheCielos, welcome to GWGuru!
If you're wanting information on Warriors, Warriors in PvE - the how-to guide is your one-stop Thread, it's located in the Warrior sub-forum of the Campfire Forum. It was compiled by Marty Silverblade, one of the moderators, and it's filled with top-notch information. The Campfire Forum in general has good information for players on the PvE (roleplaying/storyline) side of things as far as good skill combinations (Builds) to use, and the Prophecies Explorer's League and Eye of the North Explorer's League will have information on the different areas and challenges that you will come up against while playing in those two areas. Once you get Factions and Nightfall, they each have their own Explorer's League subforum, which will help answer questions about those areas of the game. Glad to have you as part of the GW community, hope the links help!

Around the time you hit lev 20 there should be 2 quest that will give you 15 attribute points each. If you don't know, attribute points are used to increase the power of your skills. you can change them around as much as you want, but only in a town/outpost. I highly recommend you do them a pvp only character will already have the 30 extra when you make it. Another thing, don't worry about money making until after you complete the main story line. You should have enough as you adventure for what you need like armor and skills. If you have questions ask me in game, or check guildwiki.

Just experiment...see what you find a good combination of skills, or ones you like. you will eventually be able to change your second profession later in the game.

Well, depending om what you want to do with your character, there are some secondaries that is more preffarable. As I donb't play warrior myself, I can't give too much information.
Anyways, Rangers can be good for different skills such as: troll ungent, antidote signet and poision tip signet giving a stable ground for a warrior. Monks was commonly used before, for the thing called wammo, but they are a bit disrespected due to the fact that they where used in PvP with bad results, anyways, they are pretty stable in PvE and just therefore was they used. Elementalist is used for conjures and sometimes mark of rodgort. If you buy factions the assassins might be of use, with the utility in shatow arts. If you buy Night fall, the paragon might be of use, a spear + shield set combined with spear attacks, shout and chants. Hope it helps a bit, but try different profession, se what you like and remember that there is more skills in game than you find in pre. Use the wiki, there is a lot of knowledge in there, http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Warrior Remember that you can always change secondary profession later in game, if you find out that it wasn't as good as you'd thought. |

When choosing your secondary prof its important to remember your looking to enhance your primary, not try and do two jobs. GW its a team game, its very rare (outside of farming) you will be solo. This means that instead of trying to be a warrior and a monk at the same time, you can bring a monk with you.
Also know the strengths and weakness' of your class. Warriors have very little energy (mana) and regain it back slowly, so don't think you can pull off big spells. GW offers 100's of skills to choose from (actually I just looked it up, there are 1319 skills a player can use in GW) so feel free to test things out. Like people have said you can "Respec" any time while in a town so don't be afraid to shift your build around. EDIT: Oh yeah I almost forgot: Welcome! I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here, if you ever need any help feel free to PM me in game (IGN: Sant Leo). Last edited by Mr. G; May 29, 2009 at 05:03 PM // 17:03.. |

Another welcome, both to guru and GW.
While you are in pre-searing (the Prophecies tutorial area) there are many things to do to boost your levels. Don't rush to choose a second profession until you have tried all of them. Each trial gives you free skills that your heroes (available in EotN) will be happy to have. There is also a website dedicated to pre-searing (some players have characters that never leave) at http://www.presearing.com which can give you more detailed information on the area.

Another thing I want to point out, later in the game you will be able to change your secondary profession any time.
So although you want to be careful picking your secondary (especially if you are playing the first game because you will be stuck with it for a long time), there are no long-term mistakes if you pick the wrong one. Also, warriors can do a really good job even without skills from their secondary profession at all, so don't worry about it too much. Just pick what seems fun to you when you test them out. |

Experimented around a bit with some of the other classes. I enjoy Necromancer most, think I'll go with a Elementalist 2ndary on this. My username on that one is Luciano Necromancia (Luciano's my name irl :P )
